Hi! I'm Patrick, the owner of DoggieDashboard LLC, the company behind the DoggieDashboard software platform. When coding the DoggieDashboard platform, I utilize the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool ⧉ to make sure that pages are WCAG 2.1 compliant.
I've created a few YouTube videos (video 1) and (video 2) showing how I go over certain pages using the WAVE tool to make sure they're accessible. The WAVE tool makes it easy to spot errors and get them corrected during the development cycle. By having an accessible-first approach to coding, I can make sure pages are accessible in the development environment before releasing them into production.
As for old pages, I am constantly hunting down and updating old pages and releasing a new accessible version. Some technology like the appointment calendar's onClick is getting migrated to an onFocus/onClick strategy using a 0 tabindex pattern. This will make the various appointment calendars more accessible since you'll be able to tab through each appointment and then click enter to open the appointment information modal. Getting a software platform accessible takes a lot of work, but my development cycle (and the fact that I'm recoding the whole site to use Bootstrap 5, which is accessible by default), make it easier. One page at a time!
If you have any other questions about how I use the Wave tool for coding, please contact me email directly at patrick@doggiedashboard.com
DoggieDashboard has adopted the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C's) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as its Web Accessibility standard for the customer experience on both DoggieDashboard.com and Blog.DoggieDashboard.com.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) ⧉ defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The DoggieDashboard software platform and blog(blog.doggiedashboard.com) are partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. If you find ways that can help make DoggieDashboard more accessible, I’d love to hear your feedback.
DoggieDashboard LLC is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. I am continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards. When coding new pages and updating old pages, I scan them using the WAVE tool to make sure they're compliant and update any code that is noncompliant.
DoggieDashboard LLC is committed to making the entire software platform accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. My goal is to provide an accessible website that conforms to Section 508 Guidelines and the World Wide Web Consortium’s Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Some existing content may not be in compliance, and some content may meet only the minimum required compliance standards. DoggieDashboard users or visitors must notify us of any accessibility issues they discover while using the software ('Saving a new financial record' for example) and continue efforts to monitor and notify us of any unacceptable compliance levels. While every effort will be made, it is understood that creating accessible formats for some website content and graphical renderings maintained by DoggieDashboard may be technologically unfeasible, impractical, or create an undue hardship to DoggieDashboard operations.
I personally make every effort to test (using the WAVE tool) the pages created inside the software platform and to remove barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from interacting with or accessing information made available on DoggieDashboard.com and Blog.DoggieDashboard.com. If we become aware of content that does not conform to the WCAG standards, we will make reasonable good faith efforts to make the content conform to the standards. DoggieDashboard users or visitors must let us know if they encounter difficulty with 3rd party sites we link to so we can pass the information along to the owners of those websites. DoggieDashboard users and visitors should also contact owners of any 3rd party websites to address concerns directly to these third parties.
While this policy does provide the standard for individuals with disabilities to access Web-based information, this policy cannot anticipate every accessibility need, due to known limitations of existing technology. There may be other circumstances, independent of technology that may limit the accessibility of DoggieDashboard LLC's websites, meaning the software platform and the blog.
Adobe Acrobat ⧉ is required to view and print PDF documents that appear on DoggieDashboard LLC websites. Some web browsers like Google Chrome also offer PDF-viewing capabilities. Download the latest free version of Adobe Reader in order to improve the viewing of these files. DoggieDashboard LLC customers must notify us if they believe any PDF content does not meet web accessibility standards.
While I strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website, particularly as it relates to content by third parties. DoggieDashboard LLC is not responsible for ensuring that third-party content, software/tools, widgets, Add-ins, APIs, etc., which are not owned by DoggieDashboard LLC but are otherwise located on or linked to DoggieDashboard LLC and any websites created by the DoggieDashboard LLC platform, conform to WCAG, and shall not be liable if they are inaccessible to individuals with disabilities.
